- Physical pain affects everyone, no matter what your age or level of fitness. It is a problem that originates somewhere in your body but affects your overall health, including your mental as well as your physical state.
And the worst of all, you think this ‘’pain’’ is normal! You often suffer from a stiff, painful neck and you think that it is normal because nearly everybody complains about a stiff neck. And if your doctor finds no pathological problem, he may well blame your symptoms on lack of exercise or stress.
Why does a perfectly healthy individual who eats well and trains hard, still suffer from neck and back pain, shortage of breath and low energy?
This is your ‘’bad’’ posture talking to you. I often see people who are physically active but still walk around with shoulders hunched forward, their upper back is curved forcing their head to drop forward. This looks unhealthy and weak.
Your neck is designed to remain vertical, supporting the weight of your skull in a perfect line from the top of your head straight down through your body to your feet.
It is a problem that nobody is tackling, even your doctor may fail to make a diagnosis because doctors often do not look into simple causes. This can create many health risks, even obesity.
‘’Bad’’ posture doesn’t just make you look awkward. No matter how hard you train or how well you eat, unless you start fixing your ‘’bad’’ posture, it may not be possible to reverse the damage already done.
Why does ‘’bad’’ posture damage your health; Very few of us realize they have a posture problem, and the many health problems this may cause.
The most obvious concern is your physical appearance. Your poor posture makes you look and feel heavier and at least 2 inches shorter than your normal height. This also affects your biological age. An example is a 36 year old woman whom I treated (her weight was 89 kilos but she did not come for her weight but because she was suffering from severe back pain). Her pain was due to a sciatic nerve and one of her legs was longer than the other. Her biological age was 37 and after correcting her posture and getting rid of her pain, her biological age dropped to 33 years old and she also lost 3 kilos without any effort.
A bad posture causes much deeper and serious problems than just a painful neck.( It is important to know that the neck has the crucial task of supporting the body’s computer – the brain).
Problems such as:
- Lack of confidence
- Lack of concentration
- Lack of energy and constant fatigue
- Depressing thoughts
- Dizziness, vertigo and balance issues
- Difficulty breathing
- Poor sleep or insomnia
- Pain in the neck, shoulders, upper, middle and lower back
- Stiffness, pain and numbness in the joints and muscles
- Headaches and migraines
- Loss of height
- Feeling heavy and overweight
- Hormonal imbalance
- Decrease in vision and hearing
- TMJ and sinus issues
- Poor digestive system
If you have tried to treat these symptoms without correcting your bad posture, your problem will return.
It is important to understand that the combination of the food you eat, the emotions you feel and how you carry your body all play a role in how you feel.
Full recovery begins with education. You have to understand what is causing your pain, then you will be able to see which solutions work best for you.
